President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s trusted aide, Sec. Christopher Bong Go of the Office of the Special Assistant to the President has been promoted to the rank of 1-star Commodore during the celebration of the 33rd Founding Anniversary of the Coast Guard Distrct (CGD) Southeastern Mindanao at the Sasa Wharf in Davao City on August 30, 2018.
Commandant Admiral Elson Hermogino and District Commander Roy Echeverria donned the 1-star insignia on Sec. Go.
After the donning of rank, Sec. Go expressed, in his message, that this year’s theme, ‘Matinud-anon ug Madasigon nga Pag-alagad sa Limpyo ug Hapsay nga Lawud sa Southern Mindanao (Sincere and Spirited Service for the Clean and Orderly Coastal Areas of Southern Mindanao)’ speaks volumes of the guiding principles which the Coast Guard have internalized and put into action, as evident in their accomplishments.
He then cited that through the years, the Coast Guard has been playing a vital role in protecting the coastal areas, despite the limited resources. Furthermore, he emphasized that they are properly fulfilling their mission amid all the trials in maritime security and safety, search and rescue and disaster response operations in the entire Mindanao.
Morevover, Sec. Go lauded the personnel of CGD Southeastern Mindanao citing that it has become the best asset of their unit as they have shown the right skills, character and attitude in serving the country.
Meanwhile, Sec. Go reminded the awardees that their laurels are not mere decorations but symbols of their responsibilities. Thus, they must excel at all times and be an inspiration to others.
He added that just like the CGD Southeastern Mindanao, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte continues to implement the law and maintain peace and order for he intends to protect the country and its citizens. He also assured that the President is more than willing to provide support to the CGD so that they could carry out their mandate more efficiently.
Sec. Go ended his speech by thanking the CGD Southeastern Mindanao for their continued and unwavering service to the Filipino people. He also congratulated Commandant Admiral Elson Hermogino and District Commander Roy Echeverria for their leadership and management, which has made their unit a proactive and dynamic arm of government that gives only the best service to the public.
