Flashflood displaces Davao City residents

Rushing floodwaters displaced several residents of Tugbok and Bangkal areas in Davao City on Wednesday afternoon, August 28.

Flashfloods were reported in Kilometer 20 Barangays Los Amigos and Balengaing in Tugbok District around 4:30 p.m.

Heavy rains were reported in the said that caused the rushing floodwaters.

Emergency teams were readily dispatched in the affected areas by the Central 911 and the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office Operations Center.

Aside from Tugbok, the lower parts of Central Park in Bangkal also reported rising floodwater.

Electricity in the area was readily cut off to avoid electrocution.

As of 07:47 pm, authorities broadcasted forced evacuation in Barangays Matina Aplaya, Matina Crossing and Matina Pangi.

The affected residents are temporarily housed in the different barangay halls.

Rescue and evacuation by Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in Talomo was also implemented due to the overflowing of Talomo River. The floodwater was reportedly at waist level.

Areas affected are Ulas, Taal 1 and Taal 2, Sunny Village, Teachers Village and Morio-Morio Village.

The city government also deployed two dumptrucks for Brgy. Talomo.

Wingvan and dumptrucks were also deployed to transfer affected families from Tugbok to Los Amigos evacuation center.
