PRRD, Go emphasize importance of patriotism and love of country among Filipinos during Rizal Day celebration

In honor of his heroism and patriotism, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go joined in the commemoration of the 123rd death anniversary of hero Jose Rizal at the Rizal Park in Davao City on Monday, December 30.

In his message, the President heaped praises on Rizal’s “ardent love of country” which “led to a reawakening of the Filipinos’ patriotism and sense of responsibility.”

Citing the challenges of “apathy and divisiveness” that the world faces today, the President motivated Filipinos to keep the “embers of nationalism alive”–as did Rizal more than 120 years ago. He also urged the Filipino youth and future generations to emulate the hero’s “shining example to always think of the greater good”.

For his part, Go–together with other government officials–joined the President in laying the wreath as a tribute to the Filipino hero and to celebrate his luminous life and legacy to the nation.

Go said that in order to continue the legacy of Jose Rizal and other heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country, Filipinos should emulate their example by serving others and by always protecting the liberty that Filipinos enjoy today.

“Tulad ni Jose Rizal, mahalin natin ang bansa at mahalin natin ang ating kapwa. Minsan lang tayo dadaan sa mundong ito, kaya gawin na natin ang tama, unahin na natin ang kapakanan ng mga kababayan nating Pilipino. Magtulungan po tayo para sa ating bansa,” he added.

Bong Go gives tour in Davao City to kids from quake-hit towns in Davao del Sur

To help them recover from their traumatic experience, Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go gave a free tour in Davao City on Sunday, December 29, to 157 children from five municipalities in Davao del Sur that were recently hit by a series of strong earthquakes.

The children, who came from the municipalities of Padada, Sulop, Hagonoy, Magsaysay and Matanao, spent the morning at the Davao Crocodile Park, where they viewed the animals there and watched a bird show. Then they met Go while having lunch at Gaisano Mall of Davao.

“Huwag na kayong masyadong matakot. Hindi naman natin kontrolado ang lindol. Ang Diyos lang ang nakakaalam ng lahat. Magdasal lang tayo na walang masaktan sa atin,” the Senator told the children.

“Mag-aral kayo nang mabuti. ‘Yan lang ang puwede ninyong iganti sa inyong mga magulang. Walang nais ang inyong mga magulang kundi mapag-aral kayo,” he added.

He also said that he would monitor the reconstruction or repair of damaged school buildings in Davao del Sur. “Tutulong tayo upang makabalik kayo kaagad sa paaralan. Tutulong tayo sa maaaring gawin sa inyong mga building.”

Go also thanked the military escorts, guides and social workers who accompanied the children on board the six buses.

The Senator earlier offered to tour the children in Davao City when he visited Padada last December 22 to distribute cash and relief assistance to earthquake victims. On the same day, he treated 196 children from Kidapawan and several towns in North Cotabato to a similar tour in Davao City.

North Cotabato and Davao del Sur suffered the worst in the series of earthquakes that occurred in Mindanao starting July. The strongest tremors, which exceeded 6.0 magnitude, occurred on October 16, 29 and 31 and on December 15.

After having lunch, the kids from Davao del Sur watched a movie at Gaisano Mall and strolled in SM Lanang Premier mall to buy select toys that they could take home.

Bunal Squad strikes again in Davao

The dreaded Bunal Squad of Davao City has again struck fear among minors and loitering teenagers.

In a Facebook post by Marco Guerrero, a CCTV footage showed a helmet-wearing man with a whip entering an internet cafe.

The said man then started whipping at the internet customers who were obviously shocked. After the man went out, the customers started scampering away.

Guerrero lamented the incident saying that they are just playing internet games and are not doing any criminal act.

PRRD, Go visit cancer kids

Sans the fanfare and the media coverage, the tandem of President Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Bong Go visited kids of the House of Hope, a halfway house for kids with cancer located inside the grounds of the Southern Philippines Medical Center.

For almost two decades now, Duterte and Go never pass the year without giving gifts to the children afflicted with cancer that came from all parts of the country and are seeking treatment at the SPMC.

Then Mayor Duterte even donated his own house to serve as the second halfway house for the cancer kids located just near the hospital.

When it’s time for the kids to serenade the President, he usually turns his back from the people to wipe his tears away which he could not hold as his heart is touched by the children’s song for him.

Food and gifts were given to the kids and their parents.
