DAVAO CITY – The Office of First District Representative Paolo “Pulong” Z. Duterte, in collaboration with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), distributed on cash assistance to 997 marginalized workers and trike drivers in the city.
Based on the data obtained from the office of the congressman, there are 683 workers, mostly solo parent and 314 tricycle drivers, who received cash assistance from the government’s assistance program to mitigate the impact of the national health emergency due to coronavirus.
Aside from cash assistance, Duterte’s staff also distributed food packs to beneficiaries at the People’s Park where the distribution was held on Saturday, June 20.
Cong. Pulong’s office has been distributing food packs (3 kls. of rice, 6 canned goods, and 3 noodles) to PUJ/trike drivers, solo parents, masseurs, and other displaced workers.
“Dunay mensahe si Congressman Pulong, ang iya lang is ampingan nato atong trabaho pinaagi sa tarong na serbisyo,” the office representative James Vergara said.
He added that Duterte also thanked Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III for the immediate response to his request.
The workers were compensated for 10 days of working on disinfection/sanitation of their houses or dwelling places and immediate vicinity of their houses. The cash assistance received by the beneficiaries, ranging from P3,050 to P3,900 each, depends on the prevailing highest minimum wage in the region, as per DOLE.
Solo parent May Batulat, a resident of Barangay Magtuod, thanked Duterte for the support he gave to the solo parents and to other marginalized workers. She said the assistance they received is already a big help.
The distribution of food packs focused on the “poorest of the poor” from all 54 barangays in the first congressional district, Vergara said, adding that Duterte’s office has more assistance to be distributed in the coming days.
