Bong Go sends aid to fellow Dabawenyos affected by a fire incident in Agdao

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go expressed his concern for his fellow Dabawenyos who were hit by a fire incident in Brgy. Leon Garcia, Sr., Agdao, Davao City. In a virtual message to victims, Go urged Filipinos to cooperate and show compassion to each other in the spirit of ‘bayanihan’ as the country continues to overcome the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

“Kumusta kayong lahat diyan, mga kapatid ko sa Davao? Mayroon akong konting tulong na assistance, masks, face shield na ipinadala diyan. Ang importante walang nasaktan, walang nangyaring masama dahil ang gamit pwede natin mapalitan, ang buhay hindi pwedeng mapalitan,” Go said.

“Magtulungan at magmalasakit po tayong mga kapwa Pilipino. Patuloy tayong magbayanihan. Hindi po kayo pababayaan ng gobyerno sa krisis na ito. Ang DTI, magbibigay rin sa inyo ng pangkabuhayan,” he added.

Aside from livelihood assistance for qualified beneficiaries from the Department of Trade and Industry, Go’s team also provided food packs, masks, face shields, financial assistance, medicines and alcohol to the 126 families, or 350 individuals, affected by the fire.

The Senator also gave out bicycles to selected recipients to promote the use of safe alternative modes of transportation during the current health crisis. However, he also advised them to take extra precaution when using their bicycles.

Representatives from various agencies, such as the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Health, Department of Labor and Employment, National Housing Authority, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, and City Social Services and Development Office were also present to provide additional assistance to the families.

“Kinausap ko ang DSWD na magbibigay ng financial assistance sa inyo, ang NHA para magbigay ng pambili ng housing materials, at ibang pang mga ahensya ay tutulong rin. Hindi po kayo pababayaan sa oras ng inyong pangangailangan,” said Go.

Health protocols, such as social distancing and wearing of masks, were strictly followed by attendees and officials present during the distribution of assistance to avoid the spread of COVID-19 in the community.

Meanwhile, Go shared that the poor and vulnerable sectors would be given free masks by the government, especially those who cannot afford to buy their own in order to comply with the stricter mask-wearing policy. He also said that President Rodrigo Duterte committed to prioritize the poor and the vulnerable in gaining access to vaccines against COVID-19 once they are made available in the country.

“Konting tiis lang, kami ni Pangulong Duterte ay gagawin po namin ang lahat, pag meron na po tayong vaccine, uunahin po namin ‘yung mahihirap at ‘yung mga vulnerable. Ito ‘yung mga taong kailangang magtrabaho, kailangang lumabas dahil kailangan nilang buhayin ang kanilang pamilya. Uunahin po namin kayo,” he said.

Also in his message to the victims, Go gave some fire prevention reminders to avoid these accidents from reoccurring. Last year, the Davaoeño legislator filed the Fire Protection Modernization bill seeking to enhance the Bureau of Fire Protection’s ability to suppress destructive fire and minimize damage to life and property.

“Konting ingat lang po sa mga bata, huwag ninyong iiwanan (silang mag-isa). Madaming nadadamay tuwing may nasusunugan. Mag-ingat po tayo parati. Sundin palagi ang mga fire prevention measures para maiwasan ang disgrasya,” Go said.

Ending his message, Go expressed optimism that the situation in the country will eventually return to normal. He also urged the residents to continue cooperating with the government and showing their concern for their fellow Filipinos so the country can easily bounce back from the health crisis.

“Tulungan lang tayo at ingat po. Itong nangyayari sa atin na krisis, malalagpasan din natin ito,” Go said.

“Sana makabalik na tayo sa dating normal, dating normal na pwede natin yakapin ang mga kapatid nating Pilipino,” he added.
